In June 2021, it was announced via the game's official Twitter account that the game would also be launching on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2022. In November 2020, creative director Nate Simpson announced that the release date was delayed again to 2022. Star Theory closed its doors three months later. Later reporting by Bloomberg revealed that Take-Two was in talks to acquire Star Theory but abruptly changed course, set up a new studio to develop the game (Intercept Games), and then poached a third of Star Theory's developers including the creative director and the lead producer. Take-Two established a new unnamed studio under Private Division to continue development of Kerbal Space Program 2, with some of Star Theory's employees brought into it, leaving it unclear what Star Theory's role remains on the title. įor various reasons, the release date was pushed back to Q3 2021. Therefore, the team has stated that they aim to make the game more accessible by introducing more tutorials in order to give more guidance to players and ensure they understand the game's various systems. Kerbal Space Program received feedback that the game was too overwhelming for new players. Uri Shumlak, the associate chair of the University of Washington's Aeronautics and Astronautics department, Scott Manley, an astrophysicist and YouTuber that has made videos on Kerbal Space Program, and Dr. To ensure that the experience felt "grounded", the team consulted a panel of scientists and experts including Dr. Development was shifted to Star Theory in part so that Squad could focus on developing further updates for the original game. The game was in development by Star Theory Games, formerly Uber Entertainment, which changed its name in order to display a stronger association with the Kerbal Space Program franchise. Kerbal Space Program 2 was announced at Gamescom 2019 on August 19, with an initial release date set for early 2020. the Orion drive), habitation modules for building on-surface, orbital and planetary colonies, a multiplayer mode, as well as interstellar travel. This is something PA could definitely use imo.ĭefinitely recommend you guys check these out. This sequel builds on the sandbox features of its predecessor Kerbal Space Program, while at the same time introducing new propulsion methods (e.g. It makes "rendez-vous" solution finding more complex but the sim looks a lot better. At that point you can change the reference body from earth to the moon. You approach the moon and enter it's SOI this means that now the moon's gravity is more important than the earths. If you're in orbit around earth you're in earth's SOI. The SOI is the region where the body's gravity is prominent.

In a 2 body solution, one body is the spacecraft, the other is the object it's orbiting.

Basically it's just a way to change reference bodies. They also implement SOI (sphere of influence) transfers. They use this sim when they enter time acceleration which is very needed in a spaceship sim. You can't apply any forces on the body, that would change the orbit and you'd have to recompute the parameters. To find the position of the body you just need the current time. Basically you save six values (orbital parameters) that lets you draw the whole ellipse/parabola/hyperbole. In the "on-rail" mode they save the whole orbit for every body. The smaller the step the more precise the simulation. In time step mode you save position and velocity on every body in the system and then recompute them based on all forces applied to the bodies for the time step. KSP has two modes of simulation: a time step mode (just like Ryan showed in the demo) and an "on-rail" mode. I've wrote a quick summary of the two bigger ones imo. KSP chose some very interesting solutions to keep the physics relatively simple and the gameplay fun. I've seen people mentioning kerbal space program in chat and I feel you guys should really check that game out (if you haven't already ). First of all, thanks for the awesome demo on the livestream yesterday.
